To the Finish Line… Prepared ~ Encouraged ~ Determined

It goes without saying that struggles, challenges and just plain life can come up against you when you are on course. It’s those times when you have to keep moving at your pace and not compare yourself to anyone else.  Maintain your integrity, keep your passion and purpose.  I hold close this mantra I made up years ago, “I won’t let nothing or no one take me out! This journey is not in vain…I’m Staying Strong and Focused in ALL circumstances. I have one life and I’m Loving it!”

“You are so much more capable than you even realize.  When your body wants to quit, you have to overcome that with your mind and push yourself harder”.  My former triathlon trainer, Rachelle, inspired me on a whole different level with these words when I was comparing myself to others who seemed to be “passing me up” with their timing one day out on the bike trail.  I held onto these words when I would get tired and wanted to slow my pace.  “You are not being fair to yourself if you only compare yourself to the ones passing you and you don’t see your own success when you are passing up others. Everyone is at a different phase of training”.

Isn’t life a training ground?  You see what your “reserves” consist of when you have to face challenges.  That deems the question, what is it you store in your reserves to draw upon to make it to your finish line in life…or the goal you are facing now?  Walking through tough times reveals one’s true character. What and who do you rely on?

“One thing about you, Michele, is that even with so many challenges you have and are going through, you look for the positive and aren’t afraid to try new things to make yourself a better person”, said a friend of mine one day after a swim, bike and run training day. Determination to press through to make your dreams come alive, whether personal or professional, is vital. Finding people who have paved the way and achieved the type of success you are looking for is key to moving forward.

When you realize you are no longer satisfied with being complacent doing and living as others think you should and you know deep within your soul you are pursuing your God given purpose and passion, that’s when your life will be opened to experience fulfillment. But, experiencing tougher times and growing in the process makes the “easy” times that much sweeter!

Staying focused in whatever business or personal goal you are working is a first step. Not letting outside distractions and negative influences consume you and keeping life in balance with your body, mind and soul is essential.

Keep your next goal in clear sight.  I’ll be waiting for you and cheering you on as you cross the finish line!

Overcoming with a 3-D View

It was a morning like any other morning and I was about to start my work day in my at-home-office.  But, before starting the day, I headed out to Starbucks, in my Toyota Celica, for a chai tea latte. I ordered my beverage, got back into my car, took the first delicious sip before putting the cup in the cup holder. I began to head home.  I didn’t get very far before I noticed a Suburban heading toward me in MY lane.  It’s by the grace of God I could think and reason as I did.  I honked to get her attention, hoping she would get out of my lane. She continued in my lane. I thought if I swerve and go right, into the ditch, she wouldn’t kill me by hitting me head on…That was the last thought I remember before I felt a BIG thug, feeling as if slow motion movement of violent force of forward and backward jerking with my body and hearing what sounded like underwater girgling sounds.

Then as if I could hear an audible voice speaking to me, I heard the words, Open Your Eyes, You Have to be OK!  Open Your Eyes!  As I opened my eyes I then heard a loud, fast, zinging sound and could feel a vibration that started from one side of my head to the other.  (I later realized it was my brain banging around in my skull and the doctor would identify a brain bleed and trauma that would result in about 18 months of recovery.) When the paramedics arrived, they got right to work with Jaws of Life to cut me out of the car and get me to the hospital.

Has your daily plan ever been altered? Have your life plans ever been Interrupted?

In life, we all face Interruptions which come in many forms:  Relationship Changes, Financial changes, Health Issues, Job Changes, and a host of others.

We can CHOOSE to view the Interruptions as opportunity for growth – We all have a choice.  And our choice creates opportunity for growthGrowth occurs when your outlook on an Interruption is set on what will Move You Forward.  I’m not discounting the reality of the interruption.  I understand interruptions are real!

An Ironman triathlete friend of mine shared three words with me one day ~ Dedication, Determination, Domination.  I discovered there is a “3-D” process that can be applied to many areas of life. It’s when we Set our Minds on this 3-D View that we say the interruption will not Stop My Progress or Pursuit.  It may cause a delay, but my Mind is Made Up!

Be Dedicated – to yourself and what’s important to you.

Be Determined – to do everything necessary to continue moving forward and not let the interruption take you out.  Nothing will hold you back from pursuing what you want.

Be so passionate to Dominate anything that gets in your way that tries to prevent you from having the life you want.

I Have A Destiny

Life without challenges…  Does that even exist?  Navigating our way through work we enjoy, spending time with family, volunteering and giving of ourselves to the causes that matter to us all take their rightful place in our life. It’s the balancing act of a Life Interruption, as I like to call it, is when we are faced with knowing if we are truly thriving in life or just existing.

I can remember back to 2006 when the “order” in my life was ravished.  Within about six weeks, my mother passed away, my main client contract abruptly ended, and I was in a divorce process from a twenty-three year marriage.  I questioned who I was, what my purpose was and how on earth could I possibly face all these challenges?  To be completely transparent, there were days I wanted to just give up!  Facing another day of all that was involved during that time in my life was too much for me to face…alone.

Through a lot of support from amazing people in my life, I realized A New Thing and Big Plans were the new order for my life. And, it was words from dear friends like, “You are much more than your kids’ mother and a wife, you have so much to offer and to give others”, that encouraged me to press on.  I read a book by Sheila Walsh and could so closely relate when she said, “For many years I applied an anesthetic to my soul, only to discover that you cannot be selective about which parts of your life you deaden. When you choose to contain pain, you contain joy too.”  I had to fight the deadening numbness, CHOOSE to have hope and I soon had a NEW drive and outlook on life.

Emotional numbness is a tough place to be.  We can appear to be involved in life and work and our hearts can grow numb.  In that numbness, we can begin to accept life that way as normal.  We can become desensitized and complacent. However, in the midst of what looks like devastation, Inspiration can be infused in your season of life… if you allow it.
